LLDB RPC server crashes when running top-level async code in Playground files
When running top-level async code in Swift Playgrounds, the LLDB RPC server crashes. For example, when running the following code from Concurrency section of The Swift Programming Language book: func fetchUserID(from server: String) async -> Int { if server == "primary" { return 97 } return 501 } let userIDs = await withTaskGroup(of: Int.self) { group in for server in ["primary", "secondary", "development"] { group.addTask { return await fetchUserID(from: server) } } var results: [Int] = [] for await result in group { results.append(result) } return results } print(userIDs) Xcode reports that the LLDB RPC server has crashed. The Swift Playground app reports “There was a problem running this playground.” However, in the case of the Swift Playground app, results are populated as expected. For example, the console shows “[97, 501, 501]”. Xcode does not print any results in the console. Tested with Xcode 26.4 (17E192) and Swift Playground Version 4.7 (2088). Wrapping the async code in a Task {} resolves the issue. Running this code in a standalone Swift file produces the expected result without an error. FB22416465 From the analytics report, attached in the feedback report, but in case it helps others identify the same issue in their crashes: Triggered by Thread: 26 RPC packet thread for client tid 013af238 (20640312) Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Subtype: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000000000005a8 Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000001, 0x00000000000005a8 Termination Reason: Namespace SIGNAL, Code 11, Segmentation fault: 11 Terminating Process: exc handler [64943] VM Region Info: 0x5a8 is not in any region. On iPad with Swift Playgrounds: How to open chapter as a playground?
Note On a Mac with Xcode installed, or on an iPad with Swift Playgrounds, you can open this chapter as a playground. Playgrounds allow you to edit the code listings and see the results immediately. (Note in page 3) (I would like to open the chapter or book: Swift Programming Language in Swift Playground on iPad) https://books.apple.com/ve/book/the-swift-programming-language-swift-5-7-beta/id1002622538?l=en-GB Best regards

Playgrounds app with the latest SDK (OS 26)
I am preparing for Swift Student Challenge, but it seems like the iPad Playground app still not support the latest SDK. I can't use frameworks like FoundationModel, etc., directly in playground app My playground for this year would require iPad environment since it uses PencilKit, ARKit, etc., and I also want to use the latest tech + the liquid glass UI Right now, I develop the project as a normal Xcode project, and I am wondering how do I post it? As Xcode playground, it must run on macOS As Swift Playground project, the iPad version of Playground does not support latest APIs and it can't compile

Query regarding hardware usage for Swift Student Challenge entry
Hello everyone, I am a participant in this year's Swift Student Challenge. My project requires the use of the front-facing camera to detect the user's body movements (supporting connection via iPhone to a Mac or other devices capable of running Xcode/Swift Playgrounds). I would like to ask if this is permitted under the competition rules? Please note that this feature functions entirely offline and does not require an internet connection.

I'm importing SwiftUI, Foundation and Charts into an iOS app I'm writing in Swift in Xcode Playgrounds and am getting this error: error: Couldn't look up symbols: protocol witness table for Foundation.Date : Charts.Plottable in Charts the code looks like this in just two example files: file 1, the view import Foundation import SwiftUI import Charts import PlaygroundSupport struct FirstChart_WithDates: View { private let data = ChartDateAndDoubleModel.mockData(months: 3) var body: some View { Chart(data) { item in BarMark( x: .value("Label", item.date, unit: .month), y: .value("Value", item.value) ) } .padding() .aspectRatio(1, contentMode: .fit) .dynamicTypeSize(.accessibility1) ChartDateAndDoubleModelView(data: data) } } struct ChartDateAndDoubleModelView: View { var data: [ChartDateAndDoubleModel] var body: some View { VStack { HeaderRowView(texts: ["date", "value"]) ForEach(data) { datum in HStack { Text(datum.date.formatted(date: .abbreviated, time: .omitted)) .frame(maxWidth: .infinity) // TODO: Format for 2 decimal places. Metal not working in Swift Playgrounds (SSC Scene)
Hi everyone, I'm currently working on a Swift Playgrounds project where I need to incorporate a Metal shader file. However, when I tried to include my shader file (PincushionShader.metal), I encountered the following error: Is it possible to use Metal shader files within Swift Playgrounds, it is really important for my swift student challenge scene? If not, are there any workarounds or recommended approaches for testing Metal shaders in a similar environment? Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Can I Use Xcode and iPadOS 18? (and RealityView)
I'm preparing my submission for the Swift Student Challenge, and I have a couple of questions regarding the development environment. Is it allowed to use Xcode to program my scene, or do I have to use Swift Playgrounds? Can I use iPadOS 18 for development? I noticed that Swift Playgrounds currently only supports up to iPadOS 17.5, but I would like to use RealityView, which is only available starting from iPadOS 18. I appreciate any clarification on this. Thanks in advance!

Locking App Orientation to Landscape in Playground
Hello! I’m building my Swift Student Challenge project in Swift Playgrounds, and I’ve run into an issue with app orientation. Since this is a game, the layout and interactions only work correctly in landscape, but Playgrounds doesn’t offer the usual orientation settings you’d configure in Xcode. Is there a recommended way to force a landscape-only experience in Swift Playgrounds using SwiftUI? Any workarounds or guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Swift Playground preview issues
I am a high school teacher from China, currently teaching programming courses at my school. Several issues are preventing the course from being completed on schedule. As shown in the image, there are two problems: The preview issue has existed since updating to the latest software and system version; I don't know how to resolve it. After renaming a Swift file, this window keeps popping up, even after closing it. This problem didn't exist last year. How can I fix this? Thank you for your reply!

Anyone noticed #Playgrounds issue with Xcode 26 beta 4?
I'm getting following message when launching #Playgrounds canvas with Xcode 26 beta 4. Here are things I've tried: Reinstall Xcode Reinstall components Removed derived data Run Disk Utility to fix permissions Tried to change Default Actor Isolation, Approachable Concurrency Changed around settings on Schemes: Run: Options and Diagnostics Created brand new project with default settings. Filed FB19003005 in Feedback Assistant. I'm surprised to see that I didn't see any posts on this during my search. So this could be isolated matter just to me.

Swift Playgrounds 4.6 removes support for libraries?
I had several library projects that were working in Swift Playgrounds < 4.6 but I get several duplicate compilation errors and previews will not build in Swift Playgrounds > 4.6. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Example project: This project builds and runs fine under Swift Playgrounds 4.5.1 however it will not run complaining multiple commands produce generated output files under Swift Playgrounds 4.6.1, 4.6.2, and 4.6.3. https://github.com/kudit/Compatibility Download this repository and add the extension ".swiftpm" to the folder and double click to open in Swift Playgrounds. If running on earlier Swift Playgrounds you can see there are no errors and previews work great (on both macOS and iPadOS versions of Swift Playgrounds 4.5.x). However, on Swift Playgrounds 4.6.x, previews will not display. Are embedded libraries not support anymore? This would be very disappointing. I posted this as a Feedback weeks ago with no response: FB16509699
